
(August 7, 2024) After many years in Washington, DC working as a writer and editor for National Geographic and the Smithsonian, Mary Collins returned to her native Connecticut to accept a position as a professor of nonfiction for the Creative Writing Minors at Central Connecticut State University. In the last 15 years she has spearheaded the development of the Writing & Publishing Minor, supervised many community engagement projects, and received the CCSU Teaching Award. She writes literary nonfiction and has published three books and many articles and essays; her most recent title, A Play Book: Creating Writers, Creating Citizens came out in 2023. She has one child, age 31, and describes writer-motherhood in three words as “Hold Onto Yourself.”
